- Part of the enjoyment of writing this story was getting to talk about the differences between Zombie chick and every other zombie out there. Typically, zombies eat brains. Zombie Chick is anything but typical, and to date, had never tasted gray matter. And the comedy in the first two panels derives from folks finally acknowledging that fact after all this time has passed without anyone giving it a second thought.
- The blonde girl in the bottom right corner of the first panel was modeled after a girl named Mary LePeak, who I was friends with in the 5th grade. When you're drawing big crowd scenes, it can because difficult to design new characters over and over again. When that happens, there's no shame in tapping into the endless resource of familiar faces that you grew up with for inspiration.
- "Long has he slumbered, waiting for his golden rebirth. And that era rises like a phoenix from the burnt crumbs of his tin innards..." Even though it's written for laughs, I'm kinda proud of that line. It has a sort of epic poetry to it, made all the more special, in my view, because it describes something so silly.
- It's a small detail, but I was (and still am) kinda proud of the way I designed the "aura" of the toaster. In terms of digital art, it was quite an achievement for me at the time.
