- I pre-designed all the pirates and the ship in this story, which is rare. Typically, I'll just start drawing the story and make the characters up as I go along. But I was moving to Ann Arbor at the time I thought this up, away from my drawing board but within reach of my sketch book, so I had some time to play around with the characters' looks.
- I studied real sailing vessels and pirate ships when designed this one, but in the end, I wound up going full Jay Fosgitt in my design, totally void of any pre-existing (or realistic) boat designs.
- The rapid-fire gags on this page, and in this whole story, were very much inspired by the comedic delivery of The Marx Brothers', whom I'm a great fan of.
- I hope everyone gets that the pediatrician stuck his finger up the captain's pooper to take his temp. It's kind of the crowning gag of this page.
See you on the next page!
