Hey, all you necrofowliacs! Welcome to the final installment of this “Dead Duck” episode, “PIRATES OF THE KINDA EATEN” or ‘FIFTY WAYS TO EAT A LUBBER”! Here’s your trivia fix:
- I’m not entirely sure, but I think the pirate jimmying open the treasure chest was originally horribly maimed when I first designed him. As I recall, most of the pirates I designed for this story had some sort of weird physical trait, my favorite being the guy in the bottom panel who had a ring pierced through his head.
- I’m also a Monkees fan, so it was a nice tribute to have the treasure be an old Davy Jones lunch box.
- E-hockmycrap.com is, as you may recall, my parody of E-Bay, which made its first mention in “One Toy Soldier Rides Away”.
- This is at least my second Captain Kangaroo reference in “Dead Duck”. Along with Sesame Steet, Mr. Rogers, The Electric Company and Reading Rainbow, Captain Kangaroo was one of my most watched kid’s programs in my youth.
See you on the next page!
